Work Experience

Service Employee’s International Union – Organizer In Training
145 Tremont Street Boston, Massachusetts

March 2013 – present
The organizer’s main role is to communicate the union idea to workers. Working on the Adjunct Action campaign means I have to effectively that idea to a group of people who are generally older and more educated than I am and who often don’t see themselves as the blue collar workers that typically form unions. These conversations are just the beginning. As an organizer, I work with workers to overcome their fears, fight for what they deserve and build their union.

UMass Boston – Urban Scholars After School Instructor
100 Morrissey Boulevard Boston, Massacusetts

September 2012 – December 2012
As a writing teacher, I worked with a group of high school students to improve their writing and prepare them for college. The course I taught, “Writing in Real Life” emphasized writing as a way to tell a story, express emotion and even as an enjoyable pastime rather than a formulaic five paragraph essay. This approach utilized the fact that when students get to write about what they care about, they are more likely to put effort into each assignment while as a teacher, I knew that the more my students wrote, the stronger their writing would become. I created the lesson plans for the whole semester and worked with a dozen students, half of whom were ESL students, to create a blog where students work was published and shared.

MASSCreative – Programs Intern
249 A Street Boston, Massachusetts

August 2012 – December 2012

As the Program Intern, I filled any gaps that presented themselves from intern mainstays such as data entry and coffee runs to more exciting activities such as writing blog posts for the website and research that influences the direction the organization goes in. I did everything and anything that needed doing. The real job was doing it all; on time; correctly; with grace.

AmeriCorps – Youth Volunteer Corps Team Leader

January 2012 – August 2012
As an AmeriCorps member my goal was to serve the need. At VSA, I worked with a team to create and facilitate weekly volunteer opportunities for youth 11 to 18 that filled a community need. I coordinated weekend episodic projects as well as week-long summer projects that were service-learning based and go deeper than filling a community need by volunteering. I also planned events for national service days and participated in AmeriCorps days of service.

Target – Team Member

At Target my first role was to provide excellent guest service. I spent much of my time maintaining a brand standard sales floor through organizing, zoning, and stocking. I also cashiered and performed other duties to keep the team functioning smoothly. As a long-time team member, I was not only a role model and trainer to new employees, but a valuable asset to upper management and to the team as a whole.

Arizona WildWear – Store Manager
